Optical Media Global Industry Awards 2006

Disc-Tech Award for Optical Media Global Innovation Leader honours Shuji Nakamura of Nichia Fame

Blue Laser Diode Invention Triggered HD DVD and BD Format

The Disc-Tech Awards will captivate the industry in 2006. "This year it was decided that we will honour the inventor of the blue laser diode in keeping with the launch

ccess and size but also achievement that contributes to the strength of the industry.
"In honouring Mr. Nakamura we are indeed very privile-

year of the blue laser formats – HD DVD and Blu Ray," informs Anil Chopra, Editor of ODS! magazine and Convenor of the Optical Media Global Industry Awards (OMGIA). A fascinating idea for the optical disc industry. The awards captured the imagination of the global replication business in 2005 when the Disc-Tech Awards recognised the promoter of Moser Baer India, Deepak Puri as the Global Industry Leader.
"The awards have given a new mean-ing to serious achievement in the optical media manufacturing industry. Shuji Nakamura has impacted optical media in determining its future in high-definition.

ged and as Mr. Nakamura is not only a great inventor but also a remarkably down to earth and extremely favourable personality," said Anil Chopra.
To quote the man himself in his acce-ptance of the Global Innovation Leader Award, "It is my great honour to receive the Disc-Tech Award. I am pleased to attend the award ceremony in New Delhi on April 6", wrote Mr. Nakamura to ODS!
   ODS!
is indeed grateful to Mr. Naka-mura in acceptance of the award. This allows fulfilment of the purpose of the award. "We hope with the institution of the Disc-Tech Awards and now with the industry-wide acceptance of the awards,

Thus being responsible for the future growth and technological development

the purpose of giving a sense of identity to the optical disc manufacturing indu-

of optical disc manufacturing processes and resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars in investment that will ensure the prosperity of optical disc manufacturing business," says Anil Chopra.
   ODS!
had a choice in recognising industry achievers among replicators. However since the Disc-Tech Awards at  the  Disc-Tech  Expo  evaluates  the global industry and  the awards are  not meant to only  recognise  business

stry and to the companies which dedicate themselves to the industry is achieved", states Chopra. "The replication equipment manufacturers are indeed major contributors to the digital economy and to the exploding and dynamic consumer electronics industry. ODS!’ attempt in creating the awards is also to recognise and attribute the success of the consumer electronics industry to the optical media manufacturing equipment companies."
